Port Authority Unveils Road Map for World Trade Center Construction

The Port Authority this week delivered a detailed report outlining a comprehensive road map that will guide the ongoing rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, and bring a new level of certainty and control to the complex project.

Executive Director Chris Ward presented a summary of the report at the Port Authority’s October 2 Board of Commissioners meeting.  It sets a new timetable for completion of major elements of the project, including One World Trade Center, the Freedom Tower, the World Trade Center Memorial Plaza, the WTC Transportation Hub, and the re-establishment of Greenwich Street through the site.

The Memorial Plaza is now planned to be open in time for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy in 2011.  One World Trade Center is expected to be complete in 2013 and the Transportation Hub will be ready by the end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014.  Greenwich Street will open in 2012.

In conjunction with the release of the report, the Port Authority today launched a new Web site - WTCProgress.com - and a list of key milestones that will allow the public to track the progress of the World Trade Center rebuilding effort.  The agency will provide quarterly updates of these milestones (the full list can be found on the new Web site).

"With the release of yesterday’s WTC report, we have launched a new way of doing business, one in which openness and transparency will be at the forefront of our rebuilding effort, and we’ll hold ourselves accountable for the results." Ward said in a statement earlier today.  "This Web site is intended to be a 'one-stop shop' to communicate regularly and openly with the residents, businesses and public officials of Lower Manhattan, and those who plan to visit the area.”
